How does our world seem to you today? Somewhat strange? Perhaps absurd?
Do you feel lost? Do you wonder who you are and where you are going? If these questions concern you, then you are very much like Alice, and you will probably agree that “ALICE in Wonderland IS NOT A BOOK.”
One of the masterpieces of world (children’s?) literature comes to life in the atmospheric space of the Bagkeion Hotel, through a performance that attempts, image by image, to build Alice’s world—a world that has many similarities to our own. Using a variety of narrative means—original visual elements, atmospheric lighting, intense musical transitions, fragments of current affairs, and tools from devised and physical theatre—director Stella Maggana creates a handcrafted fairytale for adults, as bizarre as the reality we live in, yet as innocent and tender as our dreams of changing it.
“ALICE in Wonderland IS NOT A BOOK”… for children. It is a story for every “I” and every “you,” about our journey toward “we,” about the lost people of the earth who, at some point, come together and move forward as one—even if they don’t know where they are going.
“But could it be raining outside?”
“It could… if it wants to—and what does it matter? Are you coming?”
